This pumpkin is quick to work up and can be made with any yarn you wish. Making it with blanket yarn would give you a decorative pillow for your bed or couch, or making it with fingering yarn will give you an ornamental piece for your table.

- Crochet hook 2.00mm
- Cotton fingering (4 ply) yarn –3 colours
- Stuffing
- Stitch markers
- Pointy yarn needle
- Scissors
- Cinnamon stick (optional)

- Strands (green) [1 gram]
- Stem (brown) [5 grams]
Abbreviations:
mgc: magic circle
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
ch: chain
dec: invisible decrease
hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet
tc: triple crochet
blo: back loops only
Pumpkin
Begin with orange:
01. ch 28
02. turn, skip 1st ch then sl st, sc, hdc, dc 7, tc 7, dc 7, hdc, sc, sl st, ch
These next rows are worked in back loops only
03 – 23. (turn, skip the ch then sl st, sc, hdc, dcc 7, tc 7, dc 7, hdc, sc, sl st, ch) x 21
Fasten off and leave a long tail. With your tail and a yarn needle, sew the two sides together as shown in the pictures.
Sew one of the holes shut by weaving around the opening and pulling it like a draw string, make a knot and hide the tail. Now, it is time to stuff.
Do the same to the other opening but don’t completely close it, leave enough room for your pinkie finger or a cinnamon stick. (larger if you are using thicker yarn).
Using a long strand of green, tie a knot on one side and insert it into the pumpkin so that it comes out from the bottom. Line the string along an indent of the pumpkin then insert the needle back into the top of the hole again, pull it tight to create an impression. Repeat this 5 times in total.
You can stop here and use a cinnamon stick as a stem if you wish! Or carry on to crochet your own stem.
Stem
Using brown (remember to stuff as you go) :
01. mgc 6 (6)
02. inc x 6 (12)
03. (blo) sc all around (12)
04-06. [3 rnds] sc all around x 3 (12)
07. (sc 4, dec) x 2 (10)
08. sc all around (10)
09. (sc 3, dec) x 2 (8)
10-11. [2 rnds] sc all around
12. (sc 2, dec) x 2
Fasten off and tuck in the tail.
Pop the stem in the opening then stitch around to keep it inside, bend the tip to make it look more realistic if you wish.
Finished!

I teach high school art and was wondering if there is a way for me to get permission to offer this as a craft for my students to do.
Hello Kristen! That is a lovely idea, you can definitely use this as a project for the children in your class 🙂
